Solar Energy and Corporate Social Responsibility

In addition to their ability to decrease expenses, solar technologies are a large component of curbing national carbon emissions and mitigating our negative impact on global climate change. While the generation of solar energy yields no greenhouse gas emission or negative environmental impact, more than a third of the carbon emissions in the U.S. are a result of fossil fuels burned for the purpose of powering homes and businesses. Solar also works to bolster the resilience and reliability of our electric grid, making energy more available during events like storms and natural disasters that occur more and more in a changing climate.

Making the decision to invest in solar illustrates a clear commitment to the issue of climate change, which can enhance your credibility with investors and customers who are searching to engage with environmentally friendly companies. Solar systems can serve as a constant, visible reminder that you are invested in the future of the planet as well as your local community.

If you aren’t one of the first companies in your industry to go solar, make sure you aren’t one of the last! Solar is a fantastic opportunity to showcase your company’s dedication to a brighter future.

National Incentives

Federal – The Investment Tax Credit (ITC) has been increased from 26% to 30% with the passing of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.

Low-Income and Energy Communities – Projects in eligible areas may receive an additional 10%-20% tax credit.

Domestic Content – Projects using specified percentages of American-made materials may receive an additional 10% tax credit.

Direct Pay –  Tax-exempt entities, governments and rural electric co-ops can receive the ITC as a direct payment instead of as a tax credit.

Transfers – The ITC may be sold to other taxpayers.

REAP Grants (Agricultural) – Agricultural producers and rural small businesses can apply for USDA REAP Grants that cover up to 50% of solar project costs

State Incentives

Illinois – The Illinois Shines program provides incentives based on system size. In our experience, these incentives return roughly 40% of system cost back to the customer.

Illinois – For income-qualified customers and communities, Illinois Solar For All provides increased incentives that allow customers to see savings immediately.

Missouri – Ameren Missouri offers a $0.25 per watt rebate. A 10 kW residential system would receive $2500, and a larger 100kW commercial system would receive $25,000.  This rebate is set to expire December 31st, 2022.
